Day 1: Arrival in BangkokMost travellers arrive in Thailand's capital, Bangkok, in the morning. Your driver will be waiting for you in the airport's arrival hall and he will take you straight to your hotel. You'll stay in a charming, centrally located hotel on Khao San Road; a wonderful street filled with restaurants and stores. After you've checked in and had a refreshing dip into the swimming pool, the city will undoubtedly begin to beckon... The most important attractions in the city can be reached on foot. The King's palace (Wat Pra Keo), the main tourist attraction in Bangkok, is 20 minutes on foot from your hotel and is open until 15.30. Enormous guardian statues guard the gates. The small Emerald Buddha is the most important statue here and it is praised by a great many Thai. If you have enough time, try to also visit the enormous laying down Buddha at the Wat Po, next to the palace. |

Day 2: Bangkok bicycle tourAfter breakfast you'll have some time for yourself. Perhaps you may feel like lounging in the grass and watching people stroll by in Lumphini Park. Your bicycle tour of the Bangkok suburbs begins in the afternoon around 13.00 in China Town; you can easily catch a taxi cab or tuk tuk to get there (try to catch a taxi cab around 12.30 from the centre of town). You'll meet up with your guide and others embarking on the bicycle tour in the guide's office. After picking your bicycle, your journey by bike will begin. You'll ride through small alleys, past simple houses and work areas. With your bike in hand you'll walk over a produce market where locals do their shopping. These typical Thai neighbourhoods hardly have any modern influences: no air-conditioning, no shopping malls and no traffic jams. A longtail boat will take you to the other side of the Chao Phraya River. Once you reach the other side, you'll feel as if you've reached an oasis... it's so much greener on the other side. The most important roads in this area are small bicycle and hiking trails above the khlongs. Your guide will point out fruit trees and will stop you from time to time for a snack or a drink. Once you return to your hotel, you'll be amazed by the difference between the city and the suburbs. |
Day 3: Departure from BangkokAfter your breakfast this morning, this module will come to an end.Stroll through the Banglamphu neighbourhood and visit the markets for one last time before travelling on to your next module. The Passage through Cambodia module will offer you a memorable trip from Bangkok through Cambodia. |
