After a relaxed start in Bangkok you'll travel to the capital city, Phnom Penh with its many mopeds, bikes and street vendors. You'll learn about the haunting history of Cambodia during a visit to the Killing Fields and Tuol Sleng Museum with a local guide. Then, from Phnom Penh, it's time to chill out on the beaches of Kep and Sihanoukville which are quieter and less touristy than the rest of South East Asia. After a short stop in Bangkok, you’ll set off on a journey through Laos, beginning in Vientiane, with its French colonial influences. Then, you’ll head to Luang Prabang, voted by many travellers as ‘most’ fun destination in South East Asia. Experience life among the elephants as a mahout and enjoy a trek through the rice paddies with spectacular views across the mountain valleys. Across the border in Cambodia, you'll travel down the mighty Mekong River to the historic capital Phnom Penh, where you'll spend a couple of days before continuing on by boat to Siem Reap, home to jaw-dropping Angkor Wat. The trip ends back in Bangkok, but if you fancy spoiling yourself with a couple of days on the white tropical beaches at the end of your Cambodia holiday, you can extend the trip with a short stay on the island of Ko Chang. Beginning in Bangkok, you’ll travel through the green rice paddies to Laos and across the highlands to the serene town of Luang Prabang where you’ll be woken to the sound of chiming temple bells. Then it’s into the jungle to train as a mahout and help wash the elephants. In Hanoi, you’ll get your first taste of energetic Vietnam before boarding a wooden junk and sailing through the magical world of Halong Bay. Next, you trek through the green fields of Sapa and the harrowing tunnels of Cu Chi in Ho Chi Minh City, before sailing to Cambodia through the Mekong Delta. After visiting the Killing Fields of Phonm Penh, you’ll wander amongst the overgrown temples of Angkor Wat before ending up back in Bangkok almost a month later. What is not included in our Cambodia holidays?
- Flights between the UK and Asia. These flight can be booked separately: see flights to Cambodia
- Cambodia Travel Insurance; please arrange adequate insurance including medical and cancellation cover.
- A few of the smaller transfers are excluded. This gives you more flexibility and gives you a sense of travelling independently. The public transport in South-East Asia is generally very well organised.
- Visa or Passport costs.
- Optional extras, such as food and drinks, laundry, departure taxes, etc.
