Amazing AngkorRoute: Siem Reap - Angkor Wat - Siem ReapDuring this Cambodia trip, you'll get to know the most famous temple complex in the world as you visit Angkor Wat. You'll stay for three nights in Siem Reap, which gives you enough time to explore the temples and sanctuaries; learn more about the turbulent history of this country and allow yourself to become enchanted by the mystical Angkor temple complex. Whilst you visit Angkor Wat, you'll have plenty of time to see the city itself and to let the culture and atmosphere sink in. Day 1: Siem Reap, arrivalWhether you arrive by plane, boat or bus for this Angkor Wat visit, there will be plenty of tuk-tuk drivers waiting to pick you up. Let them take you to your hotel the Cambodian way for only a few US Dollars. Your hotel is in the centre of town where air conditioned rooms and friendly staff will be waiting for you. If you would prefer a pick up instead, just let us know, as we can arrange it for you in advance. On the first day of your Angkor Wat visit, you will probably take it easy after your travels. Have a nice Khmer dish at the hotel or walk into the city and visit a traditional restaurant. Siem Reap is a relatively small town, but quite charming with little streets and small cafes. Afterwards you can visit the night market. It's popular with tourists, but if you have a good look around, you can find some nice souvenirs. |

Day 2: Angkor - excursion with guideOn the second day of your Cambodia trip, you'll visit Angkor Wat with your guide. In order to see the entire complex, you would need to spend several days here since the dozens of temples are spread out over an area of about 25 kilometres. Wander endlessly through the statues, temples and historic reliefs, but be sure to stay on the defined and marked paths, as there are still mines in some of the unchartered areas. The temples were built in various time periods with each ruler building his own temple. Because of this, each temple has its own character; the most famous temple, Angkor Wat, features Hindu influences while the Angkor Thom temple features Buddhist influences. After a day of cultural exploration, you'll spend another night in your cosy hotel in Siem Reap. |
Day 3: Siem Reap and Angkor - Free TimeOn day three of this Cambodia trip, you'll have some free time to visit Angkor Wat's Temple Complex independently if you wish. For centuries the temples were covered by jungle until a French expedition discovered the ruins early in the 1900's. Several of the temples have since been restored. Several others still show how the jungle swallowed the temples from sight. The Ta Prohm temple has not yet been completely restored. It's quite interesting to see how towering trees have taken the temple prisoner. The tops of the trees shoot up into the sky, far beyond the temple roof and the roots of the trees have wrapped themselves around the walls of the temple... truly an impressive sight. Alternatively, if you're feeling a bit 'templed out' you can explore the rest of Siem Reap itself. The Cambodia Landmine Museum is well worth a visit as all proceeds go towards mine clearance and support children orphaned and handicapped by landmines. Tonight you'll spend another night in Siem Reap itself. |

Optional Add-On: Countryside TourAlternatively, if you're feeling a bit "templed-out" and fancy doing something a bit different on your free day, we can make reservations for you to take a trip into the Siem Reap countryside to visit the local charity projects. During this optional add-on you'll be picked up from your hotel at around 8am and taken by tuk-tuk into the local countryside. You'll visit local charity projects including a clinic built by the locals and a primary school. After visiting the school you'll move on to the village of Andong Pei. From here you'll take a walk to a remote temple that visitors rarely see. The temple was taken over by the jungle and is a nice place for a local lunch. Finally, you'll walk back to the main road where a transfer will take you back to your hotel in Siem Reap, where you arrive at around 3.30pm.If you'd like us to book this trip for during your free day in Siem Reap, just let us know on the quote request form or ask your Travel Specialist. |
Day 4: Siem Reap - end of Angkor Wat visitAfter your breakfast in the morning, your Angkor Wat trip comes to an end. If you want to visit Angkor Wat a little bit further, we're happy to extend this module with an extra night. If you have more time to spend in Cambodia, you can travel by boat along the Tonle Sap Lake to the capital Phnom Penh. Here you will find out more about the country's culture and history and it's also the getaway point to Vietnam and Laos as well.Do you feel more like sunbathing on a white beach instead? Travel then via Battambang, Cambodia's third largest city, to Ko Chang Island. After a nice, relaxed stay you can easily go to Bangkok and fly from there back to the UK. |
